Crete - Driving to Palaikastro (60km) - Day 6

After 6 days, we were getting used to the awesomeness of the place and my notes are more random. We also decided to stop only once on our way to the new hotel.

We drove to Sitia on the north side of the island. Sitia is a pleasant seaside town that doesn't feel too touristy.
We played at looking at the real estate agent and pretend what could we buy... Many places are cheap but "need renovations". It says so on the ad.
Before lunch we decided for a walk up the hill to the Casarma, an old italian fortress. It was really hilly and really hot! On our way down, an old woman stopped us. She had what seemed to be a very important question regarding her watch. We figured she was asking if her watch was on time and it was. We tried to explain it and eventually we said "kala" and she was happy.

For the first time that day, we chose to have lunch inside. It was just too hot for lunch on a terrasse. Afterwards, we lounged at a café by the sea. those greek café (I mean the place) are just great. They offer a variety of very comfy chairs and many types of coffee drinks. They invented the concept of starbucks I am sure! The waiter was teaching us some greek. We read some books. It was just great.

Our hotel was outisde Palaikastro hidden withing an olive tree grove. We were welcomed by Yourgos and we felt at home right away. We walk on a path groing through the grove to the nearest beach. It was windy, as it often is in August in this part of Crete, and yet the water was hot. The beach was called Kouroumenos and is a famous site for windsurfers.
